Are you living the life you want? Do you get up in the morning feeling optimistic about what lies ahead and confident you will accomplish your goals? Do you engage regularly in self-care routines that enable you to participate fully in your work, hobbies and relationships?
If you find yourself answering “no” to these questions, and you are feeling stuck in a life that’s less than you desire, perhaps it is time to seek help. With a focus on acceptance and empowerment, my goal in working with you will be to help you understand and accept where you are and how you got there, then establish goals for moving toward the life you desire. Therapy work will be aimed at helping you develop skills and habits to more effectively manage and improve your quality of life.
My theoretical orientation is primarily cognitive-behavioral, which means I focus less on why a person is the way they are, and more on what is keeping them stuck and needs to change in order for them to move forward. This does not mean we never look back to understand how one might have developed certain ways of thinking and believing, but the main focus is always on what needs to happen in order to reach the goals we have established for therapy.
I specialize in:
- Anxiety, panic, and obsessive-compulsive disorders
- Headache and chronic pain syndromes
- Stress-related medical conditions
- Lifestyle change and wellness education
Treatment may include education regarding your condition and treatment options, training in specific skills (biofeedback, relaxation, mindfulness), homework and/or reading assignments. You will be an active partner in the therapeutic process, and your progress in treatment will in part be determined by your willingness to work outside of session. With your permission, I will communicate relevant information to your treating physician, as appropriate. I do not prescribe medication, but I will be in touch with your physician and/or psychiatrist if medication is indicated for your condition. If needed, I will provide you with referral information for additional treatment or services you may require.
